Neuschwanstein Castle (Bavaria, Germany)

Era: 19th Century
Built: 1869–1886

While technically a castle rather than a traditional palace, Neuschwanstein is one of the most enchanting and famous palatial structures in the world.

Commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, this fairytale-like structure stands high atop a hill, surrounded by the Bavarian Alps.

Known for its romantic appearance, it inspired Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle. Inside, the rooms are filled with murals and intricate woodwork, and the views of the surrounding forests and lakes are simply breathtaking.
